Collingwood
The goal for Collingwood was to construct a lock-and-leave inner city dwelling ideal for a family or possibly a couple ready to downsize but still not wanting to ride an elevator. Priority one was to design a house within the context of Kitsilano’s beach community but add a modern slant. Kits is a RS 5 neighbourhood which requires a design that’s contextual within the area, posing added challenges when building a modern structure. Priority two was to make use of the entire lot by investing heavily in indoor-outdoor integration. This meant orienting the front door on the 120-foot side of the lot versus the 33 foot side. The result was a completely private courtyard in the typically under utilized front yard, enclosed by a 12-foot hedge.
